Online Poker Future Musings

Online Poker Future Life Cycles

The Future of Online Poker

I've been in the business of online poker now for about a year and a half. That's not a long time I grant you and it would be silly of me to make any huge predictions about the future of online poker. What I can write about is the trends in online poker.

I also know the life cycle curve and would like to make some comments about the online poker position in this life cycle. Just to let the uneducated know about the product life cycle I thought I would do some marketing 101 and give you a drawing of what I'm referring to.

You will see that every product/ business has a lifecycle. Things change over time and products/ services reach maturity and decline at different speeds. What we know about online poker is that it is very much in its infancy when you consider the world wide market. In the United States online poker is far more advanced than in other areas of the world so it's important to keep geographic issues in mind when considering the future of online poker.

So now that I have cleared up a bit about the product life cycle I would like to muse on the position that Online poker is as a whole. I believe Online poker is in the growth stage. It is no where near the maturity stage. There is alot of money to be made in online poker and profit is at it's highest.

My other issue I would like to consider is what the impact of the US Legislation will be on the life cycle of Poker. In some ways this is a new beginning for alot of poker companies and operators that will continue to ply their trade in the US.

Poker promotion is already difficult but with the legislation affecting hosting, links and payment what will this mean for the operators that will try to compete here.

In the future online poker in the US must be legislated. Big offline gambling companies have already started making noises about starting their own online gambling sites. This is a natural progression of things to come. There is to much money at stake for the US Government to try and take the moral high ground. The UK Government has already started making moves towards a online licensing legislation and the Italian government has been rumoured to have a similar peice of legislation in the pipeline.

Online Poker will benefit from this legislation allowing banks to transact more easily and bring legitimacy to a industry that up till now has been secrative and hidden.

I have two other sites that I feel are of some signficant standard to share with you today:
