Amateur Poker Advice

Amateur Poker

Amateur Poker Let’s face it when you play in a tournament poker game you get a chance to play against the professionals. That’s pretty awesome, when you come to think about it. I can’t think of any other sport that allows you to do that and not come off badly injured.

However Poker can be a very humbling game and whether you be an amateur or a full time poker tournament professional it’s the same cards and all about the skill and luck that you can bring to the table.

Poker Consitency

The truth is that poker is a game of percentages and in a way it’s a lot like many other sports where consistency is the winning formula. I find that in some other sports this isn’t always the case as a big hitter can change the game with one shot and not necessarily have to be as consistent as a poker player may need to be.

Amateur poker players and by this I include myself as an amateur poker player, tend to make the classic mistake of not being consistent enough in their poker game. If you are an amateur poker player then always remember that it’s what you make over the long-run that matters. This is only going to happen through consistent poker playing and a strong willed persona for getting rid of the no hope cards.

Have a Plan

The other thing you need to do in poker as an amateur is to have a plan with each hand. What are you going to achieve i.e. what is the best outcome on the flop. Often amateur poker players don’t have a plan in mind and aren’t expecting anything other than some pot luck. Poker is as much about reading your board as it is about reading your opponents. It’s important to watch the style of the poker players at your table as this will give you vital information into the kinds of hands your opponents play. The other major lesson for amateur poker players is the ability to be able to walk away from any hand dealt to you. If there is a possible hand that can beat you and you think your opponent has it then you need to be able to walk away. In the long-term you will thank Pokernex for giving this advice if you are prepared to take it.

Poker is a wonderful game and has many fascinating contrasts to it. Those of pure calculation and then those of guiles and emotional strength. What we do know is that all poker players start out as amateur poker players and only later on if they work hard and are lucky enough get to go onto become poker tournament professionals earning the respect and adoration of the poker world.
