Phil Ivey Poker Professional
When you talk about young poker stars then it's basically impossible to leave out the name of Phil Ivey. Phil started playing at casino's when he was 17, his fake id was Jerome Graham. This guy has been playing poker professionally since he was 21 years old already and he's only 27 now.
There can be only one thing said about Phil Ivey that is not glamourous and that he hasn't won a big main event like the WSOP yet. When that day comes then be sure to expect all hell to break lose as one of the worlds top poker tournament players will be the new star of the poker world. This won't be a flash in the pan event this will be the crowning glory to a poker star that really does have the balls.
Phil Ivey has won the following events so far:
- World Series of Poker bracelet in 2000 at the age of 23
- three more World Series titles in 2002 alone
- Victory at Turning Stone Casino American Poker Championship in July
Phil says that it's not about how many tournaments you win it's about your bank account and because no one is checking this it's difficult to say who the best player in the world is. I guess I have to agree with Phil on this score because in Golf you find it's not about who won the most tournaments it's about who won the most money from the tournaments.
In poker there are so many more ways to win money that it's nearly impossible to say who the best poker player is in the world.
Phil is know to be hyper aggressive in his poker style and icey cool. He's difficult to read at live games and gets away with murder sometimes with his bluffing style. I've read a quote from the guys on the web that I liked best, "He reads the pro's like he reads books."
Personally I've never played against Phil Ivey. I guess it would be very scary if I did, my amature game wouldn't withstand that kind of onslaught I don't think.
Phil Ivey also plays online poker at Full Tilt Poker. He's one of their sponsored players and gets alot of exposure from the site. One thing that can't be taken away from this young player is that he is intense and plays for long stretches at a time and he's not affraid of being a gambler.
