Physchology and poker go hand in hand. So if you have a Phd in Physchology then you may do ok in Poker. Understanding your opponents is the key to success in Poker. Not trying to think in your opponents shoes will eventually mean you will lose more than you win. This is the main difference between poker winners and poker losers.
Poker losers think what do I have? Poker winners think what do they have.
Poker losing streaks come about when you can't feel the opponents or are to rushed.
Once you have understood this then you are ready to learn about poker and then you can go and make some money.
Short Handed Poker Tactics
What's your opponents stacks like? If their bigger than you then expect them to attack, usually unless they have shown themselves to be not very aggressive.
Ok so now I guess you know your positional bluffing strategy in Texas Holdem right?
If you don't know what that is then here's a quick crash course. When you are last to play or in late position very often it is prudent to raise and steal the blinds if no one has bet already. If you do happen to be called you can try once again to steal after the flop with a big raise. If you happen to be caught then so be it and you lose on your bluff.
The reason for this being a good idea is that if you do happen to pick up the cards your opponents are likely to call you anyways.
So here's the thing you want to be seen to be a different kind of player at different stages of a short handed game. Intially you want to be seen as tight and later on you want to be seen as loose. Ok that's an over simplification.
In poker you don't want to go into a game with a plan. This is because your probably not going to get the cards you want for your plan to work. The secret to success is to play your cards and your players as you find them.
When Greg Raymer won the WSOP he was asked how he did it, what was the strategy? You know what his reply was, "He played each hand as best as he could." and then he got lucky and won the WSOP 2004!
That's the best advice you can get for Short Handed Poker Tactics! Understand your positional bluff. Try to understand your opponents and get into their shoes. Once you know your opponent you'll be able to bluff better trap him better and basically win more of the time.
